Unsung heroes, the GED graduates!

Squealing sick baby, late rent payments, a young mother studies and dreams. The job that should have been yours; but instead goes to the guy with a diploma. Years out of high school still plugging along spending evenings on your GED studies. Our GED graduates know the difference of not having a diploma. To pin your reputation and family hopes on a goal is serious business. While not equipped with magic wands or super vision, the modern graduates gets his or her GED through hard work some times in hard times.

The route to the GED goal is all over the place. Some opt to return to the classroom. Others need the job and go on line to get GED preparation with flexible hours that are seldom spare hours. Here and there are those who teach themselves through GED materials getting the skills to pass the exams. GED students have to go through 5 examinations and sometimes they don't pass an exam!

What kind of person fails, picks themselves up and goes back to studying for an exam they blew. The kind that doesn't quit or fail to get to their goal. The kind that don't believe in pity or excuses and stands on their own two feet. Those with family responsibilities, English as a second language, who dropped out, or were cast out. What is common about them? They won't be counted out!

Hollywood needs to do a real movie about everyday people and their journeys towards the GED. Dreams deferred, hopes on hold, gutting it out towards the goal. The man who barely reads. A young female seeking job training. An invisible employee who wants more. That job in quality control. A grandmother running a day care out of her apartment.

The young, adult, or elderly all struggle towards their GED. With all of the pressures that anyone faces in today's life. Here's to that solitary light on in the kitchen late at night. A book studied during lunch hours. Side trips to a friend for help or advice on essay writing. A janitor fighting algebra while making the rounds. Yes, GED graduates do credit to what they have accomplished and faced. They all know of persons who started and fell by the wayside. I wish more, in the types of resources, could be directed to those who wish to seek their GED! My grandmother used to say “dark fears and problems in the evenings but bright joy in the mornings.”

A high school graduation is nice to attend and view all the happy faces of students and relatives present. Some GED students get to have their graduation ceremonies with speeches and caps & gowns on that long sought day.

Maybe a college graduation later in the future. Dreams are nice and some times still come true.

As one who tutors and mentors some of the GED students, I can't help but admire their efforts and character. They face their fears called nervousness and strive on. You can't help but be invested in their dreams and feel their joy. To remember the hard hardheadedness, or the bus swallowed my homework excuse. Offset by the presence during a snow storm of students who think it is important enough to come and study.

The Army issues the Combat Infantry Badge to those who have served in combat. The GED serves a similar purpose for those who have it and pride from their loved ones. To all the GED graduates of this and past years best wishes, good luck and bright mornings!

What should I do to my hair...?

I am in a bit of a hair funk! So here is a face pic of me

Let me know what you think I should do as in style and color. THis is my natural hair color and my hair is naturally pin straight. I braided my hair to get my hair to look like that. I graduated high school a year ago and I don't want to look older, but I don't want to look like a pre-teen either. My hair hits about 3 inches above my butt, it is long and thick. Let me know what you think I should do!
to the people who said bangs and around bra strap straight, I like that I had it like that this past summer. Also, the nicole richie long bob with bangs that is nice! I was also wondering would I look ridiculous with a blond like nicole or reese?

I think you should keep it, it looks great on you!
