Sports
Often forgotten in fitness training circles is the benefits of traditional sports as being beneficial for fitness training. Sports such as tennis, indoor cricket, basketball and soccer provide excellent exercise options which are fun and can possibly outweigh the benefits of particular fitness programs. Sports often bring together different qualities of fitness, creating a fusion fitness effect; beneficial for all participants. Additionally, for those looking to just get active, the benifits of golf should be considered. Whilst not generally seen as a form of exercise, the fact is that a player will walk up to and beyond 10 kilometres in a round of golf. Whilst there has been a general perception that golfers are out of shape, it has to be considered that the greatest golfer of all time is arguably, physically the most developed athlete in modern day sports. This is no coincidence.

Completing laps in a pool, either fast or controlled, provides great all round health benefits. Swimming helps develop muscular endurance, strength and stability, as well as improve cardiovascular function.

advice on feet hurting when i run?
I've been trying to run a lot to lose weight but lately my feet kill me so much I can't even go that far. Two weeks ago I wore the wrong shoes and had sharp pains in my feet and had to stop before even one lap and ever since then I get blisters, the arch of my foot kills, the sides of my feet, my heel, etc. I've never really had foot problems and I've had my shoes for a long enough time that they've been broken in...I even bought those Dr. Scholl pads but that didn't help any. What's wrong and how do I fix it?
If you are running to lose weight, you may weigh too much for the structure of your feet, to be pounding on them like that. Swimming is a first best way to trim down, because it does not damage body parts with excess impact.
If you are of moderate weight, then you really need to see about some better shoes. Running shoes are not meant for jogging anymore, they are built to transmit the greatest possible force against the ground without ripping off your feet. They are built for speed. Go to a good sports shoe store and have them fit you for long distance practice shoes, or even aerobic shoes, which are primarily for absorbing impact instead of speed.
Socks matter, get golf socks: they support your arch.
Do not run everyday, give your feet every other day off until you heal and get in better condition.
If all of this does not help, and you tend not to get much sun or eat very well, then you might want to see your doctor to check your bone density and vitamin D levels. You would be amazed how many people are just not feeding their bones what they need, and if you stress them, they will tell you about it.
